Green Day Plan To Go On Hiatus After Soundwave Festival In 2014

Green Day will not be canceling their headlining gig at Soundwave 2014 in Australia but they are going on a break after the festival according to front man Billie Joe Armstrong.

In a recent interview with BBC Radio,  Armstrong said “We’re going to Australia, doing a tour there and then we’re going to take a break,” although he did not elaborate on how long the break would be for.

After smashing his guitar and storming off stage in Las Vegas last year because of assumptions that the set was cut short, the band released a statement saying Armstrong was to undergo substance abuse treatment and that the band would be planning a short break. This lead to the cancellation of their 2012 club tour, and the planned postponement of all scheduled January and February 2013 tour dates. The band did make up a majority of the axed shows in their 33-Date 2013 World Tour, but many January and February dates were unfortunately never rescheduled.

Although Green Day won’t be playing any other shows next year, many fans are happy to see they are still on for Soundwave 2014 and that the band will not be pulling out of the festival. Let’s hope the band stays true to their word and rocks the songs we’ve grown to love.
