Product Review: Thumbs Up Touch Speaker Boombox Review

Altwire recently received this awesome touch speaker boombox from Thumbs Up out of the UK.  Compatible with most smart phones and MP3’s with external speakers, it involves no pairing or cables. Instead, through using state of the art Near Field Audio technology, this unit works right out of the box simply by placing your phone on top of the unit, with your phone’s streaming music amplifying through the front speakers. Featuring a wonderful futuristic design it not only sounds great but looks badass. The unit is powered by an internal DC 5V 3.7V 850mAh lithium ion battery that’s chargeable by USB micro cable which is included, and the unit provides up to 10 hours of play time once fully juiced up. Spec-wise it has a 4Q/3W 100Hz – 20KHz speaker which gets the job done. Unit is 5 inches long, 4 inches wide and 4 1/2 inches tall and weighs under 1 pound.

We used this unit for a couple of weeks before writing this review. It has performed quite well during that time. We did find that your phone must be placed directly on the unit for proper sound. Additionally it did pick up some static when placed near other electronic devices such as a computer. The unit is well constructed with a rubber type covering not just your basic ABS plastic. Sound wise there is plenty of bass, treble is fine, mids get lost at times but are fully adequate for your listening pleasure. The Touch Speaker Boombox does feature a optional 3.5 jack but the cord is not included. Has a on/off switch, a audio in and a DC 5V in on back of unit. Volume is controlled by your phone. If you receive a phone call during listening by turning on your external phone speaker it will amplify your call. We found that in doing this both parties experience a higher quality sound eliminating that echo effect you get when being on speaker. A great product that delivers a super sound for what it is.
