Toro Y Moi: Chaz Bundick meets the Mattson 2

Toro Y Moi

Chaz Bundick, more commonly known as Toro y Moi, is back with the help of the Mattson 2. For his second release of 2016, he has teamed up with the Matson 2 and the single, Star Stuff.

This is the first single from their upcoming album Chaz Bundick Meets the Mattson 2. Chaz B has taken the reigns on this one by producing the entire record along with performing on it. He sings on all the tracks and plays various instruments throughout. Although the Toro frontman may have most of the spotlight here, the boys in the Mattson 2 are not to be taken lightly. Their previous efforts have helped them gain respect such as the jazz-influenced song Chi Nine, which contains a beautifully laid out guitar solo and catchy backing tracks.

For die-hard Toro y Moi fans, this song will be easy to fall for. Within the first minute, there’s a synth line that will bring you back home, and as soon as the vocals hit it really kicks in. The Mattson 2 provides a more dynamic writing style that compliments Chaz well. Although the two don’t provide any vocals after a listen or two it is easy to tell that this isn’t your ordinary Toro y Moi song.

This is not the first time the 3 have worked together. In late August Toro y Moi released a live album that features the Mattson 2 on the song JBS. Star Stuff will remind you of JBS, but won’t be a repeat as they have honed their sound like a 3 piece here instead of just jamming which is present on JBS.

The record won’t be available until March 31 of 2017 unfortunately, but by then there will more than likely be another single out. In the meantime, Star Stuff can be found on Spotify, Apple Music, and other streaming services and you can also preorder the record at www.mattson2.com.
