Shocking reports and video footage has surfaced from last night’s KROQ Almost Acoustic Christmas show, where Queens of The Stone Age vocalist Josh Homme allegedly kicked a female photographer in the face during the band’s Saturday night set in Los Angeles, CA.
Photographer Chelsea Lauren (Shuttershock), who was hospitalized from the incident with neck and face injuries, is considering Josh Homme’s actions as “intentional” and is planning to press charges in response to the attack. In discussing the incident with Variety right after the show, Chelsea said the following:
“Josh was coming over and I was pretty excited, I’ve never actually photographed Queens Of The Stone Age before, I was really looking forward to it. I saw him coming over and I was shooting away,” she said. “The next thing I know his foot connects with my camera and my camera connects with my face, really hard. He looked straight at me, swung his leg back pretty hard and full-blown kicked me in the face. He continued performing, I was startled, I kind of stopped looking at him, I just got down and was holding my face because it hurt so badly.”
Moments after this incident occurred, Homme was seen brandishing a knife, which he used to cut his own forehead, resulting in blood dripping from the wound for the remainder of the band’s set. This practice is known as ‘blading’ and is most common in professional wrestling. The vocalist also referred to the concertgoers in attendance as ‘retards’ and shouted ‘Fuck Muse!’ This remark appears to have been aimed at the band Muse who were headlining later that night.
No statements or explanations for Homme’s behavior, including whether the 44 year old musician was under the influence of any drugs or alcohol, have currently been offered by the musician. As this is a developing story, we will update you as more information becomes available, including any response from Homme or his publicist.
Update 12/10/17 4:50PM EST – Josh Homme has responded with an apology for the incident. Read his statement in full below:
