Who Is Emily Armstrong? Linkin Park’s New Vocalist / From Zero Album Announced

Emily Armstrong Linkin Park

At Linkin Park’s highly anticipated “From Zero” event held in Los Angeles on September 5th, 2024, Linkin Park made a huge announcement regarding their future as a band following the tragic loss of Chester Bennington in 2017. Not only have they announced a new record called From Zero out November 15th, Emily Armstrong, known for her powerhouse vocals in Dead Sara, was revealed as the band’s new lead singer, sparking excitement and hope for Linkin Park’s future.

Knowing some of you may not be familiar with this incredible vocalist prior to her debut with Linkin Park, don’t worry, we’ve got you covered.

Emily Armstrong grew up in Los Angeles, where she began her love of music at a young age, learning guitar at 11 and singing at 15. In 2005, she co-founded Dead Sara (then known as Epiphany) with guitarist Siouxsie Medley. The band quickly became known for their high-energy performances and Armstrong’s electrifying voice. Armstrong’s voice has been compared to legends like Janis Joplin, a comparison that speaks to her gritty yet soulful delivery. From its inception, Dead Sara was a group that commanded attention, with Armstrong leading the charge with her gut-wrenching screams and haunting melodic lines.

Songs like Weatherman and Lemon Scent from their debut album demonstrated Armstrong’s ability to unleash raw power, however, Emily is no one-trick pony. She can deliver gut-punching growls one moment and delicate, haunting melodies the next, sharing some of the same qualities that made Bennington such an iconic frontman.

To date, Dead Sara has released the following records and EPs:

Studio Albums:

• Dead Sara – 2012

• Pleasure to Meet You – 2015

• Ain’t It Tragic – 2021

Extended Plays (EPs):

• The Airport Sessions – 2008

• The Airport Sessions (Remastered) – 2016

• The Covers – 2017

• Temporary Things Taking Up Space – 2018

The band appeared to have been working on some new music in 2023. However, with Armstrong now joining Linkin Park, it is uncertain if Dead Sara is still active as a band. Their social media presence has been very quiet, and their future as a band will undoubtedly be revealed over the next few weeks.

While Linkin Park as a band kept their plans for their future under wraps for the past few years, Billboard reported earlier this year that Linkin Park was looking to book future tour dates and was beginning the search for a new vocalist after the tragic passing of Chester Bennington in 2017. Granted, while we have no way of knowing how long Armstrong has been involved with the band, as the new vocalist, she brings with her the raw energy that Dead Sara fans have come to know, and Linkin Park fans will no doubt enjoy.

As Emily Armstrong steps into her new role with Linkin Park, fans of both bands are eager to see how her unique voice and presence will influence the next era of the band’s sound. Her journey with Dead Sara has been one of resilience, raw energy, and undeniable talent—qualities that will undoubtedly shape her future with Linkin Park.

Her history with Dead Sara proves she is no stranger to overcoming challenges, and this new chapter may be her most exciting yet.
