For a short period of time on Tuesday October the 29th, fans of the now-defunct pop-punk band My Chemical Romance, exploded in excitement via social media over rumors that the multi-platinum band had risen from the Dead! to “Sing” on a new yet to be titled album set for release in January of 2014.
This information came from a vague and unannounced update on chart website Hits Daily Double, that suggested an upcoming January 2014 release for My Chemical Romance with a title yet to be determined. While several websites speculated that the release was indeed a greatest hits album, many hardcore fans hung on to hope that the unfinished early recording sessions for their fifth album would finally see the light of day.
However, A wise man once said “If it seems too good to be true, then chances are it probably is”. Unfortunately for those fans, it appears they will have to keep on waiting, as Gerard Way announced last night over Twitter that the release is nothing more than a Greatest Hits record, with artwork designed by the vocalist himself. Hits Daily Double have since removed the listing from their website as well. See the tweet below:
While Gerard has never ruled out the chance of a reunion; thus leaving the door open for a day where the band chooses to re-form, it appears that day will not be coming in January 2014 as originally speculated by many music sites.
Still, in the minds of many My Chemical Romance fans still reeling over the sudden breakup back in March: it never hurts to dream.
