In This Moment are bringing their explosive headlining tour for Black Widow back to North America this April, after a very successful run of dates in Europe with Fearless Vampire Killers and Starlet. Supporting their spring tour will be Butcher Babies, Upon A Burning Body and The Nearly Deads, and dates and ticket sales can be found HERE.
Their first album with Atlantic Records has held high on charts since its release in November last year, providing a rebirth for the band, as frontwoman Maria Brink told Loudwire before its release that the band had fallen apart with Blood, and that Black Widow was the time to “do or die.”
Brink has called Black Widow an album of turning weakness into strength and embracing her darker side; “It’s about being reborn, setting yourself free and realizing the balance in everything- the dark and the light.”
She added that she was certain people would embrace the album’s diversity and the different sides to the band that fans hadn’t experienced yet, a diversity that was pushed to the limits on Black Widow.
“I felt like we used to hold ourselves in a box based on fear,” Brink answers to whether the new direction makes her feel vulnerable or not- “Will the metal community accept us? Is this heavy enough? Is this not heavy enough?” she continues, “All these questions and boundaries we put on ourselves [before have become more like] ‘let’s do what we want and let’s free ourselves,’ and the whole idea of metal in general is about not conforming and not keeping us up in that box in rock ‘n roll.
“I felt like I always mind that to Chris and he really let us go [from traditional metal and his roots.]”
Howorth had commented before a few months ago that Black Widow was “by far the most challenging, exciting and rewarding experience we’re ever had making a record. We threw out the rulebook and tried to create something fearless, constantly pushing ourselves to make an album unlike anyone has heard before.”
